I have made a few new non Zelda models since then, notably another big ME2 character but the smaller Zelda 64 stuff has been pushed to one side. Also, now in my post-student days. I've been working full time up until recently so have been pretty shattered in the evenings.

Fear not because something big and relevant to this blog is coming. Well it's not really a secret if you've ever looked at the Nintendo Papercraft forums recently. As part of a collaboration with Squeezycheesecake, we've been working on something I think a lot of people might really like to see in papercraft form. Think big and complex(ish)...more darker...and Twilight Princess-y. My build rate is cripplingly slow so it might take a while yet. It'll be posted initially on Nintendo Papercraft, but I'll link back to it here at some point so stay tuned!

It also strikes me that I have 2 near finished PDOs for some OoT and MM characters from back in September. Perhaps they may appear eventually too.

Saria

The result of the mini poll was tied, so I ended up going with Saria, who I'd already started building when it was looking like she might win. Don't worry I have PDO files ready for almost all of the characters listed so you can expect to see the others eventually!

Saria is Link's best childhood friend who enjoys playing the ocarina in the Sacred Forest Meadow. Unlike most of the Kokiri she has an air of wisdom and maturity about her and indeed she is later revealed to be the Sage of Forest once Phantom Ganon is defeated. She's also known for teaching Link one of the most catchy tunes in the entire Zelda series!

Now this model has a bit of a history. In February 2010 I was working on her but ran into difficulties because of the size. When I upgraded computers I thought I lost the template, but found her again this year. With improved skills I edited the 3D model into a better form for papercrafting, resulting in the craft you see here. Thank goodness I never released the first version as the editing was pretty shoddy compared to this one.

The size is still an issue, even after enlarging her slightly. Saria is actually a very small character in game (a child after all) so in my scale she is tiny compared to everyone else, at only 16cm. However because of the small size and difficulty, admittedly close to my own limits for size versus detail, I decided to create a bigger 22cm version that you can build instead. Though I'll respect you more if you manage the small one! ;p

Regardless of size, the hands, legs and shorts are quite tricky. Also the side hair strands ought to be built in a certain way to prevent difficulty closing the model, so please check the instructions.

Difficulty: 7.5/10 (16cm)
~6/10? Always on the lookout for new loot to plunder, she becomes obsessed with the Skull Kid's claims of treasure within the Great Bay Temple. In the events of the game, Link must rescue the stolen Zora eggs from their fortress as the hatched baby Zora are the key to accessing the temple. Though Link is more interested in saving the world than looking for non-existent treasure!

In 2009 I was working on the Gerudo Thief model from Ocarina of Time in a cool combat stance. But it proved too problematic to make and I shelved the project. The game essentially uses the same model for Aveil, scaled better (the OoT one was huge compared to Link!) and in a more suitable pose. Lessons learned from the gerudo have helped to improve this model greatly!

This model is medium difficulty with more detail than usual on the face, and some small or narrow parts on the legs and body. The head, hands and feet all glue on to the body by surface contact with marked tabs. This allows some manual adjustments to the pose in case she doesn't stand straight or her hands aren't initially in the right position. But I can't neglect this site, so here's a model of Anju!

<img border="0" height="400px" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tuWeB0HFp20/Tj70-Jgh_kI/AAAAAAAAAOA/DD-rFlrM30Q/s400/Anju.jpg" t$="true" width="186px" />
Anju makes a minor appearance in Ocarina of Time as the "Cucco Lady" in Kakariko village, but receives much more character development in Majora's Mask where she works in Clock Town's Stock Pot Inn. She has a poor memory for reservations, allowing Link to obtain a room key in a case of mistaken identity. Her main role in the game is as part of the long and detailed Kafei-Anju sidequest in which Link must work over all three days to reunite the couple before the moon crashes.

There have been a few versions of Anju released already I believe, all seeming to have her holding an umbrella! Well mine is much more plain haha with, just her in her standing pose at the Stock Pot Inn's desk.

The model is average difficulty, with some small parts on the hands but fairly straightforwards construction elsewhere. The head and hair should be built and closed in a certain order though, so take a look at the instructions. Of course the PDO file with Pepakura Designer/Viewer is a handy resource too! Scaled to everyone else as usual, standing quite tall at about 22.1cm.

Difficulty: 6/10

Download Here!

Adult Link Equipment Pack

When I made Red 'Endgame' Link I realised the advantages of being able to customise your own version. The first step would be to create a set of items all scaled to Link and my other models. Although, it took a lot longer than I thought! (Mostly because working on things like items is such a chore compared to character models). For now the items are limited to those seen on the "Equipment" screen in the menu.

<img border="0" height="300px" i$="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-W6XGidjCxT4/Tfyp8Yrr3cI/AAAAAAAAANg/KaWYi9A7eRM/s400/Promo.jpg" width="400px" />

So this pack, which may be updated in future contains:

Biggoron's Sword

Broken Giant's Knife

Hover Boots
Hylian Shield

Iron Boots

Master Sword

Megaton Hammer

Mirror Shield

Silver and Golden Gauntlets

Can these be built without having to build a Link model too?

Of course! Mostly. All the items except for the gauntlets and boots work well on their own if you choose to build them. The boots only represent the metal parts, not the feet, and the gauntlets are just simple bits that ought to be glued to Link's arms.

Will you build other versions of Link in future?
Yes, I plan to re-use my Red Link to make different Links with alternate poses and tunics. Different weapons will be compatible with these. Currently only the Master Sword doesn't really work with Red Link, and the shields only benefit when just put on his back. With different posed Links, hopefully the equipment will be more interchangeable.

Why does the Giant's Knife look identical to Biggoron's Sword?
The actual models wielded in combat seem to be the same. The Giant's Knife was really just included for a laugh, and for completions sake.

Difficulty: Variable but mostly easy. Swords are harder due to their small size and detail.

Download Here!

Red 'Endgame' Link

I wanted to design a model of Link in my own scale, but to make him a bit more unique I decided to make him with some different equipment. Red or Endgame Link as I call this incorporates several late game or obscure items not normally depicted.

So he carries the huge Biggoron's Sword, Silver Gauntlets, Hover Boots, Goron Tunic and Mirror Shield. With these items he will be able to smash through the toughest foes, endure blistering heat, lift boulders and walk in thin air temporarily. Actually as stylish as this configuration is, it's not very practical since he can't defend himself and will be sliding all over the place with those tractionless boots! In fact it's not what you might want to use at the end of the game after all. But y'know let's ignore all that for now!

The model is medium-hard. The legs, arms and most of the items aren't very hard, but there are some small parts and tricky folds and joins around the face, ears and hood. I recommend scoring the lines so it will all fit neatly together.

Note that most of the equipment doesn't have to be attached permanently. You can just rest his feet into the snug Hover Boots, and attach the shield to the sheath using blu-tack/putty or a pin. I'm saying this because it's likely I'll be putting together a pack of scaled interchangeable equipment, and possibly some alternate versions of Link in the future.

Stands ~21.6cm tall, not including the sword.

Difficulty: 7/10

Download Here!

Rauru

It's been a while since I've done a Zelda character model after being tied up with another more complex non-Zelda craft, so here's the ever wise, serious and slightly mysterious Rauru from Ocarina of Time.

Rauru is the Sage of Light and the first person Link meets after being revealed as the Hero of Time. Things look bad at first but he starts Link off on his quest to awaken and unite the five other Sages to gain their power to save Hyrule!

This model is easy to medium. The body and arms are large and blocky and should be simple so long as you assemble them in a suitable order. He has no visible legs or hands, which gets rid of a few tricky parts! The head has more detail, and although the parts are moderately big, there's some important folds around the face, moustache and chin which must be done cleanly. Eventually the head glues via surface contact into the inner hood, and the arms attach in the same way underneath the shoulder arches.

Scaled to my other characters as usual and stands ~25cm tall. After some infuriating balance problems with my recent non-Zelda crafts it's a great relief to build something that is completely stable!

Difficulty: 5/10

Download Here!

Mirror Shield

A quick craft made in one evening, as an experiment for my standard scale of Zelda models. Its highly polished surface and magical properties allow Link to reflect, or absorb and re-emit the fire and ice beam attacks of Twinrova. Unsurprisingly it reflects sunlight quite well too, which is handy for some puzzles in the temple! Apart from these special abilities, it functions exactly the same as the Hylian Shield, so whether you equip it after the Spirit Temple is simply a matter of preference! I for one think it looks quite striking with the red Goron Tunic. ;)

As for the papercraft it's about ~10.4cm from top to bottom, very easy and should give no real problems. The Handles are optional- leave them out if you want a plain back to the shield. I've included them because who knows...I may eventually make someone to hold it!

Difficulty: 2/10

Download Here!

Lucia

At last, Lucia, my third Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn model is finished! Originally she was set for a summer release and I built everything except the hands and sword. However I gradually realised the editing was incomplete; she was far too detailed for her scale, resulting in an ugly build. After some simplification, shortening of the hair, reworking of the face, and a rebuild over December-January she's ready for release.

Lucia acts as an aide and bodyguard to her adoptive sister, Queen Elincia of Crimea. While her brother Geoffrey commands the Royal Knights, she is head of the country's spy and intelligence network. In the events of Radiant Dawn, she is responsible for unearthing the leader of the Crimean rebels. Later she joins Ike and the Laguz to fight against the corrupt Begnion senators.

(Not as useful of a character as my good man Haar, but I really like her design!)

She's a swift and skilled Swordmaster, able to deal out frequent critical hits, however may have trouble with heavier classes who can withstand her strikes. A low defense and average resistance means she should be carefully supported and avoid being caught in heavy combat with classes she can't counter effectively.

This model is of her Swordmaster long hair variant, wielding a Silver Sword. The template is complex but slightly easier than my previous FE models because of a lack of armour layers. Still, parts like the hands, collar and attaching the chest skin could cause difficulty. 18 pages split across 2 PDO files: please use these for references- they're extremely useful (You'd be silly not to if you can run Pepakura Viewer). Part numbers reflect my rough order of building but don't be restricted by them.

Download Here!

Difficulty: 8.25/10

Best built in the smooth method, with a few exceptions mentioned in the instructions. Use of thicker cardstock is essential. Unfortunately with the Moon about to fall, the event is cancelled at short notice. He can be found at the Milk Bar at night, disappointed over the cancellation, though Link can offer to give him a sound check by playing his instruments on stage.

As for the model, the body is very easy to build being very blocky. He's very unstable unless you balance him on his tail fin or cane. You could try and weigh him down a bit but it might not make that much difference with the small feet.

Difficulty: 5.75/10

Download Here!

Lake Scientist

Time for an update! I haven't worked on anything Zelda related for a while because I had a bigger non-Zelda project that you can have a look at here.

The elderly Lake Scientist was first seen in Ocarina of Time, working in his laboratory perched on the edges of Lake Hylia. He is a researcher, using the lake's water with other chemical compounds to create potent medicines, such as eyedrops for Biggoron. In Majora's Mask, his alter-ego has set up a lab in Great Bay, and studies the marine organisms and climate. He also owns a carefully controlled water tank perfect for hatching Zora eggs!

In the Manga, he appears in one of the short stories and is referred to as Dr. Mizumi, though technically this is not considered to be canon, so I prefer to call him the Lake Scientist instead (as the Manga is less well known).

For the model itself, the body is quite easy because he doesn't have any legs and just a flat base to his robes. The head is more detailed though, especially around the mouth and eyes, so make sure you score the lines to get a neat shape. At many points in the construction you can use holes in the model to secure tabs from the inside, but finally closing the whole thing might be a bit tricky depending on what order you make it in.

Scaled to my other characters as usual, and stands about 17.7cm tall. Sounds small but remember he is very hunched over and actually has a large head.

Difficulty: 6.25/10

Download Here!

The Postman

It's about time I did a proper Zelda character that people are more likely to recognise so here's the Postman from Majora's Mask. Now the timing of this is awkward because Ninjatoes has released his own version, though in a different pose and with props for a diorama. Different versions of the same characters are always welcome, though I recommend you check his version out, as his models are consistently high quality. With some hindsight I can say his template and instructions are better than my Postman, although mine has a PDO file, and a 'true' lineless template.

The Postman is a dilligent worker in Clock Town, obsessively sticking to his schedule, even though it soon conflicts with his urge to flee as the moon threatens to annihilate Termina. Eventually Link can earn the Postman's Hat off him, which allows him to check the mail boxes around the town. His strange attitude and voice sound effects ("Ya!") always made him one of my favourites, plus he's a very good example of how the time system of Majora's Mask really adds depth to the game. Like many characters he had an alter ego in Ocarina of Time, the unbeatable Running Man who you could 'race' as adult Link.

I'd like my next model to be free of problems in testbuilding. This one set me back a few times, but I feel I've fixed the major issues I encountered the first time(s) around. For whatever reason I've built his head three times and his body twice now! (Also his pose, though not complex is tricky to get a decent photo that shows him best.)

Parts of the head and body are quite detailed, but in my scale, he's actually quite tall, with a large head and hands which makes things not as bad as they had potential to be. Still experience is probably needed, and I always stress that Pepakura Viewer helps a lot too!

Stands ~24.0cm which is tall for my standards!

Difficulty: 6.5/10

Download here!

Elegy of Emptiness Zora

It's been a while, due to problems in testbuilding, plus I'm working on another big Fire Emblem craft but here is the Elegy of Emptiness Zora! (For lack of a better name)

In Majora's Mask by playing the song, Elegy of Emptiness inside Stone Tower, Link can 'shed a shell' of himself to create a statue of his current form. Described as a souless image, these are used to solve a variety of puzzles later on. Wearing the Zora mask the statue produced is a ghastly white eyed Mikau, the soul from which the mask was derived.

The Zora statue I think is the most creepy (tough competition if you look at the Link one) due to his blank eyes and shouting expression. In the age of N64 graphics and blurry CRT televisions, it was difficult to discern all the detail, and for some reason when I was younger I thought that the neck tattoos were actually a stitched up wound on his throat. :S (though neither sound pleasant!)

This is a harder model than some of my others because of the way the limbs tend to merge into the body. The legs for example are merged down to the knees and again at the feet. So some experience and use of the PDO is recommended.

He stands quite stable at ~22.0cm (not including ~7mm stand) and has quite a lot of detail, especially if you build the fish guitar.

Difficulty: 7/10

Download Here!

Elegy of Emptiness Deku

This is the second model from the Elegy of Emptiness series. In Majora's Mask by playing the song, Elegy of Emptiness inside Stone Tower, Link can 'shed a shell' of himself to create a statue of his current form. Described as a souless image, these are used to solve a variety of puzzles later on. The image created depends on what form Link is in at the time. Wearing the Deku mask the statue produced is a small sad looking Scrub.

Since the Zora and Goron statues appear as Mikau and Darmani (the souls which reside in those masks), it is believed that the Deku mask was derived from the Deku Butler's missing son. This is hinted at during serveral scenes in the game.

Oddly enough, the Deku statue is too light to press floor switches down, so has no real use in the game.

~15.4cm tall without the stand, which adds another ~7mm, though the height will strongly be influenced by how straight the leaves are. It's very top heavy so weighing it down inside the little legs is required else he'll tip over backwards. Fairly large pieces, so nothing too complicated. You must cut the eyes and leaf shapes out yourself.

Difficulty: 4.5/10

Download Here!

As usual thick paper or thin card should be used, plus the PDO file with Pepakura Designer or Viewer (see links section).

Haar

The second of my Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn models, Haar is available for your scrutiny! Being more complex, these take a longer time to edit than N64 content. Hey isn't this called Hyrule Papercraft, like Zelda stuff? Well...yeah but I have a great passion for FE games too! :p

Haar is a veteran Wyvern rider who has served many nations in Tellius. In the events of Radiant Dawn he joins up with Queen Elincia to halt the Crimean rebels, and later follows Ike in the fight against Begnion, possibly with his own desires to bring down his corrupt former commanders and senators. His trademarks are an eyepatch, perpetual tiredness and a no-nonsense attitude.

As a Dragonmaster he combines high hit points, strength and defence with impressive maneuverability for such a heavy unit. Equipped with axes he can smash through most enemies and withstand heavy combat with ease. His low resistance makes him vulnerable to magic, especially Thunder Mages which do double damage to Wyvern units.

(One of my favourite and most useful characters too!)

This is a hard model, no doubts about it, experience in papercrafting is a must. It is quite tall but has 21 pages and many small parts. Elements of the face and hands are particularly tricky. Use of the PDO is a must to see where parts go. Please look at the Read Me, template info and instructions, though don't be restricted by my order of building, as everyone's method varies.

Download Here!

Difficulty: 8.5/10

Best built in the smooth method, with a few exceptions mentioned in the instructions. Use of thicker cardstock is essential. Printer paper will not work!

He doesn't have as many accessories as Nephenee, but he's still a detailed model that looks great when done. My hat's off to Fire Emblem RD's character designers!

Elegy of Emptiness Link

I return from elsewhere with a new craft! Now I've not actually given up, just in the last months I've had a bunch of models which just never made it to the building stage.

Elegy of Emptiness Link is here (though you may wish he wasn't)! In Majora's Mask by playing the song, Elegy of Emptiness inside Stone Tower, Link can 'shed a shell' of himself to create a statue of his current form. Described as a souless image, these are used to solve a variety of puzzles later on. The image created depends on what form Link is in at the time. As a Hylian (not wearing a transformation mask) the statue produced is a surreal, rather warped parody of Link. I always found the statues quite disturbing and an obscure piece of the darker world of Termina. (No wonder they used him for that fake "haunted" game story recently! Granted, I made this before his bizarre popularity spike)

15.7cm tall without the stand, which adds another ~7mm. The large head makes it top heavy so weighing it down inside, or even glueing to the stand is necessary. Other than closing the hood and some important valley folds, it's a simple model.

Difficulty: 4.75/10

Download Here!

As usual thick paper or thin card should be used, plus the PDO file helps a lot!

(Wryly smiling at folks here because of that "haunted" game stuff. After the Crimean rebels against Queen Elincia are defeated, she travels with Ike and the Greil Mercenaries to assist the Laguz Alliance against the Begnion Empire.

As a halberdier, she is a very well balanced unit with good strength, skill, speed and defence. This allows her to perform well in sustained combat due to having few real weaknesses. Though her individual stats will likely be exceeded by those of specialist units later on. Other classes may be better at specific jobs, but she remains a flexible and very useful all-purpose unit throughout the game.

This model is not for beginners! It's the most complex one I've edited yet with 28 pages and quite a few small parts. Use of the PDO file will be a great help as my photos of the first version are slightly out of date. The legs, body and head can be built in any order since they are all self contained pieces, though the part numbering reflects my rough order of building from the bottom up.

When complete she has an awesome amount of detail and will look impressive standing guard with shield and Steel Greatlance in hand.

Difficulty: 8.5/10

Best built in the smooth method, except for a few places mentioned in the instructions.

Download Here!

Grog

Obscure Zelda NPCs are one of my favourite categories for ripping. Grog is no exception and after some messing about in the last fortnight he's now available in papercraft form!

Grog is an idle and depressed young man who can be found under a tree in Kakariko village at night. He readily shares his views on people and his parents, all of which are "disgusting" to him, and even suggests that Link is too! His father is Mutoh, the boss of the carpenters and from their dialogue, the two don't seem to get along very well. In Majora's Mask, his alter ego looks after the Cuccos in Romani Ranch and sports a new spiky haircut. (Though this model doesn't include that)

He sits on a box at 16.1cm and has an optional bag for a mini diorama feel. Technically in game he has three bags so you can go nuts and print more if you want.

The model is very average in terms of construction, the only hard parts being the hands, which are very thin and flat near the thumbs. Also there are many important valley folds on the body that should be done cleanly.

Difficulty: 6/10

Download Here!

The tension of the paper at the joints means his pose could vary and be more 'open' than what you see in Pepakura. That said, I still recommend you use thin card/thick paper, otherwise he might be a saggy mess (even more so!).

Stalchild

Another semi-simple model, this time it's a Stalchild! These undead skeletons rise as pairs out of the ground at night in Hyrule field to attack those who wander off the main paths. However they are quite slow and easy to outrun and will vanish at sunrise. In Ocarina of Time, they only appear in Link's childhood, which is odd considering the initially corrupted state of Hyrule when Link emerges as an adult. In Majora's Mask they appear, but as the footsoldiers of Ikana awaiting orders from Captain Keeta.

Like the Poe, the original state of this model could not be built as a papercraft. There is an unedited version on the internet but I didn't believe it could be a good model at all. So I've merged, chopped, added and re-posed various parts to get this. Unlike the Poe, this is scaled to my other guys, and stands ~18.7cm but will depend a lot on your build. He may need weighing down inside the feet with something to stand.

It relies a lot on glueing surfaces of pieces together, so I recommend a strong liquid glue. Any will do, just don't use glue sticks! Also a few 2D parts are quite shaky so thicker paper is a must. If you use printer paper, you might get a saggy, gibbering wreck. The way the legs and arms glue on, might mean people's poses will vary. It can be customised I guess, but try to get a position where he stands up! ;p

Just glue well, and wait for it to dry and actually this is pretty easy.

Download Here!

Difficulty: 4.75/10

Poe

A model that's been in the works for a few weeks, it's an N64 Poe! These Zelda equivalents of ghosts are found in the darker corners of Hyrule and Termina. Each carries a lantern that when defeated, smashes and allows the Poe's spirit to be captured in a bottle. Drinking it will produce variable effects on your health so you'd better be feeling lucky! There are many varieties of Poes to be found such as the Composer Brothers or the four Poe Sisters, but this one's just an ordinary spirit that would only net you a handful of Rupees from the Poe Collector.

This was very 'raw' when ripped and required many edits to make it buildable. It's mostly large pieces but with a few smaller ones on the arms and face that bump the difficulty up slightly. I haven't scaled this one to the others because it would just be too big! In game they almost match adult Link in size! So this is reduced a bit but still looks nice amongst my standard scaled models.

Download Here!

Difficulty: 4.5/10

Also our new address is at http://hyrulepapercraft.blogspot.com

Young Malon

Finally, I started this project in February but it got delayed for ages for some reason, plus it always take me a while to pluck up courage to announce a model of a more important character! I've brought the project forward due to me shortly going away on a long field trip. D:

Malon is the daughter of Lon Lon Ranch's owner, Talon. As a child she plays amongst the horses in the enclosure, and also accompanies her dad when he delivers milk to Hyrule Castle. It's here where she first met Link, and would later teach him Epona's song- an invaluable ability seven years later! She makes a good counterpart to the adult Malon model, or you could call them Cremia and Romani- their alter egos in Majora's Mask!

The model is just over 15cm tall and keeps to my 3400 standard scale in Pepakura. So she'll be the correct size compared to my Zora, Master Sword (13.7cm one) and Adult Malon.

Download Here!

Difficulty: 6/10 but quite easier with experience.

Simpler than the adult version - the dress for example is just a bunch of strips and the head is actually larger! However smaller pieces in the arms/hands, shoulder geometry and closing the head stop it from being overly easy.

Lyn (Experimental Showcase)

Thanks to the efforts of Gazamaniac we have a bunch of Brawl trophy models available. Very nicely my request for Lyn or Lyndis to quote her "true" name was met so I thought I'd better do something with it.

However it's a learning process since I just usually work with N64 standard graphics. Haywan of the Papercraft Museum sort of beat me to it with an amazing high res version so all credits go to him for taking on this great feat!

But I'm a bit of a Fire Emblem nut, getting hooked on the GBA and Wii version (and a bit of the DS too!) over the years. So I want to do my own version to my own preferences. Haywan's is very detailed, probably keeping much of the original data intact, but I wanted a simplified version to suit my tastes.
However due to errors, and inexperience I'm not releasing this one. Please understand that these days I'd rather not release shoddy models for people to gripe about. Right now, I'd like to think that only the Mad Scrub is a bad template and wouldn't like to add another to that list...

Lyn is one of the Lords (or Lady rather) that feature in Fire Emblem for the GBA. Raised on the Sacae plains, she was unaware that her grandfather is infact the Marquess of Caelin. After learning this, along with a plot to kill him by his brother, she sets out with a band of knights and followers to stop Lord Lundgren's plans. Later on she joins forces with Eliwood and Hector as they battle against the Black Fang organisation. She becomes a very powerful swordswoman renowned for her great speed and skill. It is a bit easier and still of equivalent size to the small version of this template]

The Master Sword is perhaps Link's most important weapon in his various quests to save Hyrule. In it's Ocarina of Time incarnation, the sword rests in a pedestal inside the Temple of Time, where only a true hero has the ability to remove and wield it. After a little bit of experimenting I can put some values down.

Standard Human Scale:
Pepakura Scale Factor: 3400
This is my attempt to keep all my human shaped models to scale to make them look better and more accurate as a group. For example no young and adult Malon who are the same size! Though it says humans/humanoids it could be used for some enemies or a general universal scale for everything. The result is most people will be 15-24cm tall.

Edit: In the past I've rigidly stuck to 3400 and with good results, but as I continue getting content, I've noticed that some characters will just be too big (Poes) and some too small (Saria is tiny when compared to the Adult cast!). So y'know there might be some lee-way with certain models, and some minor resizing for aesthetic or practical purposes.

Merry Christmas!

And a Happy New Year!

Here's to a papercraft filled 2009!
(Hurray for pre scheduled posts as well!)

Malon (v3)

My first human shaped model since the Zora! And a nice Christmas present for you all too! And finally I've updated it to fix some minor but annoying errors.

Malon is the daughter of Talon of Lon Lon Ranch in Ocarina of Time, and teaches Link Epona's song when they are young. She is one of my favourite characters, despite only having a few small but major parts in the game.

This is the adult version of her ripped from Ocarina and stands about 20cm high. I made a poor version of her a while ago, but this is a vast improvement! Well actually I ripped Cremia from Majora's Mask who looks exactly the same. Except she isn't. Malon and Cremia have slightly different textures and geometry! Malon has a longer nose and neck, while Cremia is thinner, has a small pointy nose and different mouth and skirt textures. Well I think Malon looks better overall despite being slightly less detailed so here she is! But really, this model could be regarded as either!

Download Here!

The model difficulty depends on your experience. Beginners will find it hard, experienced builders will probably not. If you can build my Zora well then it should be no problem. It's the Dead Hand, a mini boss seen in the spooky Bottom of the Well and Shadow Temple in Ocarina of Time. A surpisingly detailed and fun model to build. It is probably to scale with the Dekus but will be small compared to my standard human scale.

The monster is a fleshy undead mass which lives underground. Several arms on the end of long stalks project out of the ground in a circle to grab victims, after which the Dead Hand will rise up and attack with its huge mouth and teeth.

The model comes as two parts by default: The monster itself, and a single arm stalk and stand. However you can build more than one stalks for a diorama feel, or none at all if you wish.

Dowload Here!

The Dead Hand itself is not too hard and I believe I got the template for the head quite good. The only tricky part, as with all 3D models is sealing off the whole thing. The elbows may be a little imprecise depending on your build and you might not get the true pose that the PDO shows. My build isn't posed right but still looks good.

The arm stalk's fingers are difficult, because of the small size, but there's nothing I can do about that. ;)

Difficulty: Dead Hand: 6/10
Arm Stalk: 7/10, but only because of the small fingers. And this means...papercrafts! Ok I can't guarantee how many I will design newly, or if I'll just remake my old ones but I have a lot of time to do so!

But the real reason of this post is to give some info on how I'll be doing my new models.

Now, other Zelda rippers/designers on the web have made quite a bundle of models already, I personally have contributed 6 to the pile, and 1 I never released. But the problem here is that they are all different sizes.

I used to say 20cm for a humanoid character was perfect, and it is in my opinion, but by automatically setting it like this you lose all scale! Some models like my Dekus work best as small ones. But if I'm going to start making more characters then I want them to be to scale to each other so they are less irregular and more awesome as a group.

How will this be done? Simple! I hope. I will not resize them at all in Blender, and when they are extracted to Pepakura, increase their size by a factor of X. This factor is yet to be determined and I'll suss it out after my first model using this method. Then it can be applied to a few of my old ones like the Zora.

So in other words, for all human characters and maybe other accesories, I will be keeping them all in scale. The average height will probably be from 15-23cm depending on height differences in game.

But I realise that this will make some models really big or small so there may be more scales to work around this e.g.

-Small creature scale
-Standard Human scale
-Large monster scale

Something like that...

Deku Guard

None shall pass!

This cute simple model is a nice addition to any collection and is much easier than the Mad Scrub. Essentially it is 4 closed shapes and some 2D pieces. To attach the head leaves, make small slits to slot and glue them into. The feet are free floating in game, so there's nothing to stick them to by default. However the workaround is to cut the shape of the body leaves, dab a blob of glue on the foot and slot it into one of the wedges cut. With some glue and possibly double sided leaves it is not hard.

Difficulty: 4.5/10

Mad Scrub (Showcase)

Edit: This was a bad template so I've removed the download for now. Here is a really easy model guaranteed to give you minimal grief, as well as being a cute little thing at only ~5.5cm tall!

Gossip Stones are strange objects found throughout Hyrule and Termina. It is believed they gather rumours and information to spread amongst themselves but will not easily tell their secrets to strangers. So before I go to bed, here is a Zora model from Majora's Mask, though the same version also exists in the earlier Ocarina of Time.

The Zora's are an aquatic race in Hyrule and Termina. They are often found living near bodies of water such as Zora's River and the Great Bay. Hyrulean Zoras have strong ties with the royal family and guard the land's water supply at Zora's Fountain. In Termina, they live as fishermen and are famous for their rock band, the Indigo-Gos.

Download Here!

The model is better designed than the Poe Collector but has a few tricky parts. You have to squash the upper arm insides a bit to get them to fit in the shoulder properly, and attaching the legs is a little difficult. The model is unstable when the fins are added so you must weigh the feet down if you want it to stand!

It stands 22.5cm tall and looks great with any Zelda collection, especially if you take the time to double side the fins!

I've recently edited it to make it easier to build and with full instructions!

Difficulty: 6.5/10

My Papercrafts

Ok so I will be linking to ZIP or RAR files which contain all the contents you need to build the model. Apologies to experienced modellers if this sounds obvious but I'm also considering new papercrafters as well. ZIP files are easily opened with WinZIP, RAR files with WinRAR or AlZip.
A quick list of what you might find:

A JPEG or PDF of a lined and lineless template. I advise making the lineless verison, with the lined one being used for reference, though people have different preferences and standards so it's up to you! Newer models will be PDF files since they are higher quality and direct from Pepakura Designer.

A PDO file. What is this? This is a 3D model file for Pepakura Designer/Viewer which shows exactly where pieces go. Stuck on a model? Consult the PDO! It solves about 80% of all building headaches! Download Pepakura Designer (trial) or Pepakura Viewer (complete) for free! I highly recommend using these!

Several reference pictures from different angles. Sometimes a visual guide on the real thing can be a real help!

Instructions! Perhaps the 2nd most important thing for some people! These have got better through time, so older models might be a bit more vague.

Some models may need a line guide reference for dark pieces. Though newer models will have high contrast lines on dark bits so the above only applies to old templates.

My guarantee is that I will never release a model that I am not happy with myself. With the exception of the Poe Collector v2, I have testbuilt everything once (or twice sometimes) so you can be sure that the models will be buildable to a good quality. I'm very picky myself about other people's models, so hopefully that rubs off on my templates! :p

Poe Collector (Showcase)

This was my first model made in August 2008.
