Adult Link Equipment Pack

When I made Red 'Endgame' Link  I realised the advantages of being able to customise your own version. The first step would be to create a set of items all scaled to Link and my other models. Although, it took a lot longer than I thought! (Mostly because working on things like items is such a chore compared to character models). For now the items are limited to those seen on the "Equipment" screen in the menu.

So this pack, which may be updated in future contains:

Biggoron's Sword

Broken Giant's Knife

Hover Boots
Hylian Shield

Iron Boots

Master Sword

Megaton Hammer

Mirror Shield

Silver and Golden Gauntlets

Can these be built without having to build a Link model too?

Of course! Mostly. All the items except for the gauntlets and boots work well on their own if you choose to build them. The boots only represent the metal parts, not the feet, and the gauntlets are just simple bits that ought to be glued to Link's arms.

Will you build other versions of Link in future?

Yes, I plan to re-use my Red Link to make different Links with alternate poses and tunics. Different weapons will be compatible with these. Currently only the Master Sword doesn't really work with Red Link, and the shields only benefit when just put on his back. With different posed Links, hopefully the equipment will be more interchangeable.

Why does the Giant's Knife look identical to Biggoron's Sword?
The actual models wielded in combat seem to be the same. The Giant's Knife was really just included for a laugh, and for completions sake.

Difficulty: Variable but mostly easy. Swords are harder due to their small size and detail.

Mirror Shield

A quick craft made in one evening, as an experiment for my standard scale of Zelda models. I wanted to see what a few items might look like scaled to my character crafts, so here we have the Mirror Shield from Ocarina of Time.

The Mirror Shield is one of the treasures of the Spirit Temple within the Desert Colossus. Its highly polished surface and magical properties allow Link to reflect, or absorb and re-emit the fire and ice beam attacks of Twinrova. Unsurprisingly it reflects sunlight quite well too, which is handy for some puzzles in the temple! Apart from these special abilities, it functions exactly the same as the Hylian Shield, so whether you equip it after the Spirit Temple is simply a matter of preference! I for one think it looks quite striking with the red Goron Tunic. ;)

As for the papercraft it's about ~10.4cm from top to bottom, very easy and should give no real problems. The Handles are optional- leave them out if you want a plain back to the shield. I've included them because who knows...I may eventually make someone to hold it!

Elegy of Emptiness Deku

This is the second model from the Elegy of Emptiness series. In Majora's Mask by playing the song, Elegy of Emptiness inside Stone Tower, Link can 'shed a shell' of himself to create a statue of his current form. Described as a souless image, these are used to solve a variety of puzzles later on. The image created depends on what form Link is in at the time. Wearing the Deku mask the statue produced is a small sad looking Scrub.

Since the Zora and Goron statues appear as Mikau and Darmani (the souls which reside in those masks), it is believed that the Deku mask was derived from the Deku Butler's missing son. This is hinted at during serveral scenes in the game.

Oddly enough, the Deku statue is too light to press floor switches down, so has no real use in the game.



~15.4cm tall without the stand, which adds another ~7mm, though the height will strongly be influenced by how straight the leaves are. It's very top heavy so weighing it down inside the little legs is required else he'll tip over backwards. Fairly large pieces, so nothing too complicated. You must cut the eyes and leaf shapes out yourself.

Elegy of Emptiness Link

I return from elsewhere with a new craft! Now I've not actually given up, just in the last months I've had a bunch of models which just never made it to the building stage.

Elegy of Emptiness Link is here (though you may wish he wasn't)! In Majora's Mask by playing the song, Elegy of Emptiness inside Stone Tower, Link can 'shed a shell' of himself to create a statue of his current form. Described as a souless image, these are used to solve a variety of puzzles later on. The image created depends on what form Link is in at the time. As a Hylian (not wearing a transformation mask) the statue produced is a surreal, rather warped parody of Link. I always found the statues quite disturbing and an obscure piece of the darker world of Termina. (No wonder they used him for that fake haunted game story recently! Granted, I made this before his bizarre popularity spike)



15.7cm tall without the stand, which adds another ~7mm. The large head makes it top heavy so weighing it down inside, or even glueing to the stand is necessary. Other than closing the hood and some important valley folds, it's a simple model.

Stalchild

Another semi-simple model, this time it's a Stalchild! These undead skeletons rise as pairs out of the ground at night in Hyrule field to attack those who wander off the main paths. However they are quite slow and easy to outrun and will vanish at sunrise. In Ocarina of Time, they only appear in Link's childhood, which is odd considering the initially corrupted state of Hyrule when Link emerges as an adult. In Majora's Mask they appear, but as the footsoldiers of Ikana awaiting orders from Captain Keeta.



Like the Poe, the original state of this model could not be built as a papercraft. There is an unedited version on the internet but I didn't believe it could be a good model at all. So I've merged, chopped, added and re-posed various parts to get this. Unlike the Poe, this is scaled to my other guys, and stands ~18.7cm but will depend a lot on your build. He may need weighing down inside the feet with something to stand.

It relies a lot on glueing surfaces of pieces together, so I recommend a strong liquid glue. Any will do, just don't use glue sticks! Also a few 2D parts are quite shaky so thicker paper is a must. If you use printer paper, you might get a saggy, gibbering wreck. The way the legs and arms glue on, might mean people's poses will vary. It can be customised I guess, but try to get a position where he stands up! ;p

Just glue well, and wait for it to dry and actually this is pretty easy.

Poe

A model that's been in the works for a few weeks, it's an N64 Poe! These Zelda equivalents of ghosts are found in the darker corners of Hyrule and Termina. Each carries a lantern that when defeated, smashes and allows the Poe's spirit to be captured in a bottle. Drinking it will produce variable effects on your health so you'd better be feeling lucky! There are many varieties of Poes to be found such as the Composer Brothers or the four Poe Sisters, but this one's just an ordinary spirit that would only net you a handful of Rupees from the Poe Collector.



This was very 'raw' when ripped and required many edits to make it buildable. It's mostly large pieces but with a few smaller ones on the arms and face that bump the difficulty up slightly. I haven't scaled this one to the others because it would just be too big! In game they almost match adult Link in size! So this is reduced a bit but still looks nice amongst my standard scaled models.

Deku Guard

None shall pass!

This cute simple model is a nice addition to any collection and is much easier than the Mad Scrub. It's very small and probably to scale with the Mad Scrub too by semi coincidence, however it isn't scaled to say the Zora, which is 3 times bigger!

These little guards stop any intruders from entering the Deku Palace at Woodfall in Majora's Mask, and patrol the lush gardens within.

Actually in game they are cute but not that small- they stand level with young Link!

The model is easy for anyone who has a little bit of experience. Essentially it is 4 closed shapes and some 2D pieces. To attach the head leaves, make small slits to slot and glue them into. The feet are free floating in game, so there's nothing to stick them to by default. However the workaround is to cut the shape of the body leaves, dab a blob of glue on the foot and slot it into one of the wedges cut. With some glue and possibly double sided leaves it is not hard.

Gossip Stone

Boing!! Here is a really easy model guaranteed to give you minimal grief, as well as being a cute little thing at only ~5.5cm tall!

Gossip Stones are strange objects found throughout Hyrule and Termina. It is believed they gather rumours and information to spread amongst themselves but will not easily tell their secrets to strangers. And even if they do, what they say might not always be useful!

The stones are excellent timekeepers and react very strangely if struck with a weapon or magic.

Drummyralf and I have noticed that different people's printers might make the template too dark or funny coloured, so feel free to edit it if the default version does not come out right!

The model is very easy. In fact the only slightly hard part is sticking the base cleanly on as it depends on how tight/loose you built the main piece.
